Shopping in Auckland

Auckland’s stylish heart is the home of many of New Zealand’s top fashion designers. The block around High Street, the Chancery and Vulcan Lane hosts the boutiques of Karen Walker, Workshop, Zambesi and World, plus dozens of other designers. The inner city suburbs of Ponsonby, Parnell and Newmarket are also well known for their fashion shopping. Auckland is also a good place to shop for unique arts and crafts, and Pacific Island themed treasures. Large malls and outlet stores like St Lukes, Albany Westfield, Sylvia Park, Dress-Smart and Botany Downs are spread throughout the suburbs. There are also several markets that are a magnet for bargain hunters seeking fresh food, arts and crafts, clothing and second hand goods.

Aotea Square Markets
Occupying the largest open-air inner city space, Aotea Square Market with its trademark blue and white tents is one of Auckland's favourite markets. Humming with all the vibrancy and diversity that is Auckland, the market offers some of the best examples of Pacific arts and crafts, traditional Maori carvings and contemporary jewellery as well as funky New Zealand fashion, delicious ethnic cuisine and live entertainment. If you want to get a taste of Auckland life and New Zealand culture, come and discover the Aotea Square Market, open every Friday and Saturday, 10am till 6 pm, rain or shine.

Botany Town Centre
Botany Town Centre has more than 150 stores amidst picturesque streets, lanes and piazzas. The conservatories and pavilions boast international award winning architecture with overhead sculptures depicting the New Zealand Kauri forest and native flora and fauna floor etchings. Open daily from 9am (10am Sunday) till 5.30pm. Late night shopping on Thursdays and Fridays till 9pm.

DFS Galleria
For the ultimate in tax and duty free shopping visit DFS Galleria stores located in Downtown Auckland and Auckland International Airport. Shop in style at DFS Galleria Customhouse and enjoy savings on cosmetics, fragrances, designer label boutiques, sunglasses, watches, electronics, luxury brand accessories, fashion clothing, fine jewellery, leather goods and luggage, New Zealand souvenirs, wine, beer, and liquor. Customhouse open seven days from 11am – 10pm. Auckland Airport store is open for all flights.

Downtown Auckland
The heart of Auckland, known as the Big Little City, overlooks the splendid Waitemata Harbour with its thousands of boats and scattering of islands. Classy and vibrant with a pacific flavour, downtown Auckland offers all the world-class dining, sightseeing, shopping and events of a big city, yet is little enough to get around easily and see all the sights. New Zealand’s main street, Queen Street offers a range of shops from souviner stores to surf shops and the up-market Smith and Caughey’s. For design, fashion, galleries and cafes head down to the new precinct, Britomart.

Dress-Smart Factory Outlet Centre
Dress-Smart has over 100 stores featuring leading local and international brands at up to 70% off normal retail prices every day. There's plenty of parking, as well as a free shuttle bus from the central city. Stores include Nike, Adidas, Country Road, Pumpkin Patch, Esprit, Sunglass Hut, Overland, Working Style, Cue, Lippy, General Issue and loads more.

Victoria Park Market
Built 100 years ago, this unique heritage site is the oldest example of Victorian industrial building remaining in New Zealand. In 1984 the site was transformed into a market. Located within close walking distance from the central city, Victoria Park Market has more than 85 shops, cafes and restaurants. It offers an exceptional selection of New Zealand's arts and crafts, souvenirs, fashion, sportswear and accessories.
